Detection between 7501 and 8501 - is possible?

Hi!

I'm beginner in case of TED Series.
My Qs here were about detection between computers - some tests works, some not.

My Q is again about detection, but not computers, between CPUs:

Is possible to detect between 7501 and 8501 CPU inside Commodore 16, 116, +4, 232, 264, 364 ?

Thank you for all replies.

One could "detect" by opening the computer case and looking at the CPU. There is no way to detect a difference in software, as they function identically.

The only difference is the process used to fabricate the chip. The 7501 was HMOS, the 8501 HMOS-II. IIRC the mask was identical so they were electrically as well as functionally identical. There has been claims in the past that some revisions of MOS CPU's could be detected using the observed behavior of some undefined op-codes but I've not seen it done in practice.
