 Re: Z80 GUI: SymbOS

It is an interesting offtopic. grin
what kind of speed we should expect, if no SD media involved?
so 1551 (without fastloader) should not be treated a slow one? As i remember 1541 has ~400 byte/second continious read, and it was treated snail speed. 1551 should have 1000 byte/sec. Really faster, but still not cheetah happy
what i saw on the Apple video seems much faster (load and save), and as i see no Hdd involved. theoretically should have the same speed as 1551.

btw one thing i do not get. It was told, that the slow floppy reading of c64 caused by a hw bug (design issue), and some data encoding done from SW, not from hw. With correct hw speed would have been 4x faster on c64 with 1541. Questions:
-if it is such a simple issue, why it was not solved in Plus/4,if they already designed a TED?
-without fastloader 1541 uses 1 data line, 1551 uses 8 paralelly. So what made so wrong, that 1551 ONLY 2.5x faster?
