I guess I was mislead by the fact that all my DSDD disks were 48 tpi and I tried many of them on a SFD-1001 and never experienced any problems. And all the HD disks I owned were 96 tpi and none of them worked on the SFD-1001. So I wasn't refering to the actual format but to what's printed on the label
Btw, did you ever get your SFD-1001 fixed? Or do you have several ones? Personally, I don't have one but 21 years ago there was one at my high school (even at that time "retro" ).
