As far as I know, these chips are no longer manufactured. The method you mentioned is the only way to obtain them: get them out of other working machines. So there's an ever shrinking limited supply

How about buying them in Hungary? Is that too far? http://www.hqelektronik.hu/info/en/8501.html

Pepax, have you bought any CPUs there?
I wouldn't mind an extra one... what's the exchange rate HUF-EUR right now?

Too bad the TED's price is kinda ridiculous: http://www.hqelektronik.hu/info/en/8360.html Also, if you are adventurous and have some extra money you can search for 8360R2, for example, on http://www.hkinventory.com. Good luck with dealing with Chinese suppliers. And it looks at first sight as if there were more companies having the TED in stock. Would be interesting to try contacting them. http://www.1sourcecomponents.com/partinfo/8360R2.htm.

Yes I have bought a few CPUs from them (and the 15 last SIDs they had... most went directly to Visac though ).
According to www.xe.com 1 HUF = 0.00372481 EUR.

And I also asked the guys at http://www.sh-halbleiter.de about the price of TED in 2006 and they wanted 35 Euros apiece.

That's been an incredibly nice find man! Hats off!...
This April I did submit an inquery at http://www.electronicpool.de because they seemed to have 8501 processors... but they wanted around Eur 20 per piece (if I wanted 10 or more pieces). I considered that a bit high, yet people in DE might find that company worth a look, at least. I seem to remember them having 8360s (even 6561R1s... VIC-20 videochip) too (again, at a slightly high price).

It's been on hqvideo.hu for years, I couldn't believe it when I found out a few years ago. How come you Hungarian guys haven't bought all their stock years ago? :D They even have some other funny C64/C16 stuff like ROMs and even modulators! But who cares about these anyway, especially for the price..... BTW: I have just paid for the VIC (6561) and a bunch of other stuff like 4464s and whatnot. The VIC cost about $2 so no business for the German guys, sorry! :D The only downside is that it takes a lot of time for the airmail parcel to come to Europe from Thailand. I wonder if the Thailand Post uses hot air balloons or what... :D :D

It would be nice if some local convinced the guys at HQwhatever that the price of the TED was way too high...
