Well, for us the problem is so small, we're thankfully being ignored. If it got worse and we had to get a professional solution, I'd probably go with akismet or something similar.
The bots that hit us now are so stupid! They only post replies to a specific thread. So basically blocking them is as easy as changing the ID of a post (which, I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but did happen for this post). Although that's the last resort, I'd rather let some of them though so just that I can see the content and the IP, etc. Why the don't reply to all the posts is beyond me, but I don't want them to improve
