 Re: original or...?

Looks like a C64-style datasette (1530/C2N) with a C16/Plus4 plug on it.

I've looked through my (ridiculously large) collection of datasettes, none of them have a serial number higher than the one shown there, so perhaps by that time, they ran out of grey casings and used the C64-style ones instead. happy

Apart from the casing colour and plug, the 1530 and 1531 are identical, so it may be possible, IMO. happy

 Re: original or...?

I'd say it was genuine. I had an adaptor shipped with my C64C to use a C16/plus4 ended tape deck which wasn't needed as I had a normal C64 datasette...

Came in handy, as you can see its a little over used tho. happy

 Re: original or...?

I'm not sure if it's genuine. Could be just a 1530 case and a 1531 cord. I have got a 1530 with an adapter so I can't tell if the 1531 cord can be easily removed and connected to the 1530 board. Could anyone confirm this?

I think there are different 1531 models. The counter is sometimes white with black numbers and sometimes black with white numbers.

 Re: original or...?

The serial number stickers seem in good condition. If it is a made-up one, they've gone to a hell of a lot of trouble to do it, a lot more than it's worth. happy

There are two official variants of the 1531:
The one with large black counter dials with white numbering and the Record LED below the dials, made in Taiwan.
And the other (more scarce) version, with small white dials with black numbering and the LED above the Record button, made in Japan.

 Re: original or...?

It could of come from a C64C, C128 but both would of needed an adaptor.

Maybe its been imported from a country that continued to use such hardware long after the wider world had stopped selling them. Maybe a mail order company were selling them as spares...

Why do I have the adaptor? It does have a C= badge on the top.
