|  Transferring own programming
Is it possible to transfer tape programs to the emulator using your own pc. I have some programs I wrote myself, that I would like to run on the emulator.

It can be done but it's a pain in the backside. Lando can tell ya about that. 
Go to http://sta.c64.org and check out the X1541 Shop for an 'X1531' cable to hook up your 1531 tape deck to your PC. Software not included.

If you have access to a 1581 you can transfer your tapes to the 1581 using your Commodore, then take the floppy out of the 1581, put it in your PC's floppy drive, and read it with 1581Copy (link can be found on sta.c64.org).
When Commodore designed the 1581, they used MFM format (standard PC) with a few CBM-specific mods for compatibility with older CBM computers and software.
Or maybe you have a friend with a 1541 and a X1541 cable?

Minstrel's Commodore page. Check out MTAP. There is info on how to make your own 1531 adaptor to plug onto PC.
You can also sample your tapes as wav's and rename them to .tap for Minus4 and Yape to read. But it is very hard! Check out mine here for sample rate's because I can't remember how to do it  Mike Dailly had all the info because he was the first to do it and sadley he never sent me a mirror of that site to upload here when he took it down. I will ask again. The samples will have to be mono, meaning you need a mono tape player. A good one is the old spectrum tape players. The hardest thing is getting the volume level right and in some cases it took me hours to get it to work. Once you get 1 to work there is a good chance other will work. Check my sampale taps here, just rename them to .wav because there are just normal wav files.
