Luca: of course, some amount of variation in the palette should be allowed (like it already is in the case of .gif's using the Plus/4 palette). I will probably just use the VICE palette as reference, and detect any colormapped image as having the C64 palette if there are exactly 16 colors and the difference from the VICE palette is not too large.
