The compressor is my own code, it is somewhat similar to the zip/gzip format, but the compression ratio is better. However, it has the disadvantage of a large and slow decompressor, so you would probably want to use an external compressor instead in most cases; the viewer does not include any code for decompressing, it just calls a subroutine through the vector at $17F4 if the data is flagged as being compressed.
