Hi ! It does of course make more difference with test images that really require the high color resolution (e.g. a screenshot of the 'flitest.prg' example), but for typical images there are usually only a few lines where the background colors change within a pair of lines. However, this is probably in large part because the current algorithm basically does the old-style conversion first, and then tries to reduce the error in a second pass by changing the background colors separately for each line. I have experimented with various ways of optimizing the colors in a single loop, but so far this always resulted in either too much slowdown, or slightly worse - rather than better - quality, or both.
