It could also be possible to add more video modes, for example the earlier greyscale only conversion, although the only advantage it has is being able to set attributes independently for 8x1 blocks, rather than 8x2, which is not much compared to the disadvantage of losing colors.
Another idea, originally from TLC, is using NTSC mode to increase the horizontal resolution, as well as to make the visible area wider (41.6 characters), but I do not think this overclocking trick is very useful in practice, particularly since it only allows MC resolution with 3-4 colors for the whole screen. An example of two images in one PRG file, and conversions of the same images in the high resolution color mode for comparison can be found here:

What would be really useful is adding full multicolor mode conversion with "horizontal interlace", although it is probably the most difficult one to implement.
