Could I get someone to run a benchmark?

There was a simple BASIC benchmark published in Creative Computing back in the 80s that was used for a simple comparison of different machines.
The article that had the largest comparison of different machines is here:
http://www.atarimagazines.com/creative/v9n11/259_Benchmark_comparison_test.php

The results are missing and it was before many machines were introduced anyway. But we are trying to piece together results for different machines over on the Atariage.com forums. Sadly, I don't have my machine with me but if someone could run the benchmark on a real Plus/4 we could include it in the results.

Please don't combine lines as part of the benchmark involves the interpreter searching for lines.

The benchmark source can be found here:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/~korpela/ahl/basic.html

You might have to use RDN(0) instead of RND(1) depending on what CBM BASIC supports.

Well, it gives me a bad gateway error.

Try viewing it again. The error seems to have been fixed now.

Ok, it started working.

Time 149
Accuracy 1.04141235-03
Random 11.1208959

What is time measured in? Seconds?

It means one minute and 49 seconds.

Thanks!

FWIW, the best score published originally was 1:09 by a Toshiba T100 with a 4MHz Z80 and a lot of machines were around 2 minutes.

The benchmarks we've done so far have done much better since we are benchmarking machines that came out after the article was published.

The thread is here:

The time could also be improved by a factor of about 1.48 by blanking the screen (poke 65286, 11), and the machine can be overclocked by a factor of 1.25 by switching to NTSC mode (poke 65287, 72), but using such tricks would probably not be a fair comparison with the other machines. On the other hand, an NTSC Plus/4 would be about 9% slower, but 1% faster with the screen blanked.

Switching to ntsc clock will not help at all, because then also the timer is running faster happy

Indeed, according to TIME$ it would even be "slower" because there are fewer lines per video frame as well, so the timer is incremented more frequently.

 Re: bad gateway error

It seems the sharemation server is not very reliable since about a week ago, as I often get errors again. This is unfortunate, since I also use it for hosting the ROM files for plus4emu, and people downloading the emulator may now have problems installing it.
