Sounds good... Yes, those things depend a lot on the display type used. Some newer TV sets with digital components don't show anythings at all if it's not the type of signal they expect.
What kind of TV card are you using? BT8x8 based cards used to be very popular but nowadays there are many Pilips SAA 713x ones around?
Maybe we can collect some data with some kind of test suit for various display types.
