I made a monitor program that is executed from ROM image. Currently it uses a lot of Kernal calls (for I/O) and some RAM (100-200 bytes) but it can be changed to not use any of them. For example mapping some RAM to $fe00 and backup uses zero page addresses there.
It is about 8-10 kbytes in length, can read from RAM/ROM and IEC devices. Has built-in character-set, character-screen, bit map searchers, code relocator, single step debug, illegal code handling in assembly. Can interpret binary/decimal/hexadecimal numbers. It can also use a PC style parallel printer on user port.
It's source in Csory's Macro Assembler format so it can be expanded any time.
