Can this be done by simply mapping the VIC-II routines to unused addresses in the TED, and then writing a software patch to BASIC 3.5 to support it? A few EPROMs might do the job. The functions are hardwired into the chips, so if you want to use VIC-II functions then you have to put a VIC-II into your computer.
