Sometimes it has been reported that the cable to the head is broken, but not the head itself, but this was only for 1571 drives (upper head). This would be the only repair option.
After replacing the head assembly alone, you have to go through the complete alignment procedure. I don't consider this an option. (Personally, I wouldn't risk damaging my analog alignment disk by using it in a single sided
1541/1551 mech. So yes, I have one, but only use it for 8250/SFD1001 drives,
and maybe for a 1571 if I have to).
