OS96 is (like OS92.x) replacement for the original Basic/Kernal-ROM/EPROM-chips.
It's nearly 100% compatible. It hasn't tape-routines and some uncompress-routines in some software doesn't work with it (I don't know why). The best is a switch for both OS,
OS96 and original Commodore.
A better version of OS96 needs a small hardware-extension for use 64k-EPROM. It's only needed for a setup-tool (like PC-setup) in combination with sRAM-expansion or sRAM-card.
