Commodore 16+4 Pack for Gameboy DMG

Hi everyone!

I’d like to share that the physical edition of the Game Boy (DMG) collection, containing 16 games, which I developed in collaboration with the Australian distributor insideGadgets, is now available for pre-order. What makes it special is that we produced the boxed version in a very limited quantity—only 25 units exist worldwide. So if you really want one, you’ll need to act fast, because if you miss out, you'll only be able to put the cartridge version under the Christmas tree (which is unlimited). https://www.wls.hu/c16

Looks like a neat package happy

On the first photo, there's... "something" - a rectangle shaped object with a smaller rectangle and a C= sign cut out. What is that? A custom cover for the Gameboy perhaps? The image is too small and I couldn't make it out.

The box is closed with a magnetic strip. It has a laser-cut rectangle, the Gameboy card is placed in it, and the Commodore logo is laser-cut next to it. It looks great! This is the inside of the box, it is only taken out in the picture. I hope you don't watch it on your phone, but on your computer.

On a desktop computer. Please click the image below to see the full size screenshot. I've outlined the object in question in red:

It's pretty small, I can barely make it out, and I can't click that image to enlarge it. What is it???

To me it looks just like a foam insert that will keep the cartridge in place in the box (which is larger).

Nice project by the way, I am tempted... happy

Nice project but I do find the idea of Plus/4 games on a Gameboy very confusing. I have watched the work over on Itch.io but I keep thinking wouldn't of this been better to do Gameboy enhanced versions of the ports? straight copies of Plus/4 games on a Gameboy just seems confusing happy

I tried the online demo. I had a play of Commando. It has Richard Ikin as the C16 coder on it, but this isn't a port of the C16/Plus4 original. It isn't a scroller on the C16 (as it should've been). Not quite the same game.

Also, Autozone. The car can't move backwards on the original, but I like the feature. I haven't tried the others.

@JimmyCoupe: What makes the idea of C16 games on a Game Boy very confusing? Those are games that are run on a gaming device. There are numerous examples of such games nowadays that are released on PC, XBOX and PlayStation, sometimes even on Nintendo consoles. And it is not a new phenomenon, it has decades long past. See e.g. Doom (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doom_ports). Or any multi-platform release from the 1980s (basically the better part of the commercial C16 catalogue, I guess). Are those confusing too? confused

Re: Commodore 16+4 Pack for Gameboy DMG

I love all things retro buddy and its not what I think. I just find the concept of a plus/4 game on a gameboy a confusing one. There is a million ways to run a Vice emulator on a million and one devices so I see it as a missed oppurtunity to have not remastered a classic rather than a straight port. I also understand doom and quake phenomenon. In fact I probably understand it more than most coming from a GP32, GP2X and openpandora background happy. I am not against the work hence why I have monitored and reviewed that stuff on itch.io.

I reckon a gameboy enhanced version of Treasure Island, Icicle works and Fire Ant would be massive winners out there bringing the games to a new audience. It has always shocked me how many people I meet played Fire Ant and remember it fondly.

I'm getting confused. What version of Commando is it?
