| DAAD's Home! Hibernated 1 & Eight Feet Under
It comes from an ancient Spanish code environment to write adventure games, and it has slept for 30 years. Just the pure desire not to make it fall by the wayside has given new life to DAAD, this time in English language, this time for multiple systems.
Stefan Vogt is the man who recovered, extended and translated the adventure game engine originally coded byTim Gilberts, by teaming up with him. That has been the push for him to write and release his adventures sci-fi saga: Hibernated 1 - This Place is Death, and its direct spinoff Eight Feet Under - A Hibernated 1 Addon, produced under the label of Pond Software Ltd., and already released on physical media by poly.play. Both the adventures hit the 8bit game, instantly becoming a must-have among the retro-enthusiasts, gaining high scores in several reviews.
And that's the part of the whole story we love the most: DAAD interpreter was still missing a Plus/4 branch, so our great friend siz came to save the day: his work about extending the DAAD to the 264 series too has allowed the original author to touch the Plus/4 shores with both the games, presented in a classy C64/Plus4 double system single D64 release. Needless to say, there's a clear smell of physical release for this. Have you ever dreamed about a journey far beyond the known regions of the universe? Close to Vega, Olivia Lund is on the trail of one of mankind's greatest secrets and a thousand-year-old mystery. After over 200 years in hypersleep, she wakes up alone on her stranded ship, the Polaris-7. The artificial intelligence Io seems to be her only remaining friend now.
The author reminds to all of you that of course is advisable to play them in a logical sequence. The game is a donateware, so you can download only from the author's homepage, and name your own price.
siz, Stefan: thanks guys for your effort! Hibernated 1, and Eight Feet Under: this place...is more alive than ever!

First of all I'm glad that finally I created something that could make it to the front page.
Seriously: a few thoughts on DAAD: - I did the conversion using the official sources of the C64 version - as I only had the sources of the interpreter (and not for the editor) I had to make it as compatible with the C64 version as possible - that includes the original C64 memory layout as the editor creates a graphical database with hardcoded memory pointers - that resulted losing two rows of text in the bottom of the screen as graphics is located at $e000 and I/O area is covered by colours - this in fact lead to binary compatibility with C64 save games so you can save your progress on one of the machines and continue on the other - the engine profits from the higher clock speed of the plus/4: the text output is much faster - the loader is capable loading both the plus/4 and C64 versions from the last used device number using KERNAL loader so you can use it on an SD2IEC too - I don't know many C64 releases with the DAAD engine but all of them should work with the plus/4 one, you only have to change the interpreter for EDIPLUS4.

Awesome work!
"I don't know many C64 releases with the DAAD engine but all of them should work with the plus/4 one [...]" I think this is a important remark... Hopefully people with time on their hand can hunt down a few games and release some super easy conversions

The two pictures represents two different Styles and both looks great. The pic with the girl is a híres one, but the style is similar tó the ZX Spectrum pictures with Strong colors and high contest. Very nice. The second is a classic multi color one, I really like some of the toning effects, especially the cloud is unusual (but effective) on a multi picture

With this enginen port it's possible use text + graphics adventures ? or only works with text adventures? Best DAAD games use text and graphics.

Unfortunately this one is text only. As I not into text adventures I was not aware of this. Since then I've learned that there is an extension for DAAD which allows you to load images during the game. I ported that one to but it's still a pull request on GitHub (didn't make it to the official source - The author told me yesterday that he is implementing some new features and will pull my changes after that). As this is an extension to DAAD it means the game authors will have to upgrade the game data files to make it dual platform compatible. (It's not a big task: they'll need to update the extension only as I made the extension dual platform too)

I am developing LUMYDCTT..., and I met a strange event when I tried to copy PRGs from any D64 of DAAD Games:
At first sight, I thought of LUMYDCTT running into another bugs, but after trying another D64s then everything was all right. I don't understand it. (why $10 will be $08 at the very first of the file)
(p.s.: YAPE handles this case with no any bad clue, if I attached the D64)

Charlemagne,
Please refer to siz' post at the start of the thread, especially the second and third points of the list.

"...so when YAPE (or any other emulator) meets $08, it converts to $10..."
No such thing.

After LOAD BASIC calls a relink function which rebuilds the next-line-pointers.
Edit: I re-read the comments: it behaves the same way on a real machine. It's not an emulator feature.

After jumping into the deep of kernal and learning how the KERNAL load a file...
Thank gerliczer for lighting the fire in the dark.
