Wow, it's been almost 5 years since I brought this up... http://plus4world.com/forum/9213
Even then I was working on our megademo and the game, and here I am in 2010 with almost nothing to show for it. How sad!
But back on topic, I don't there are any games exactly like that genre. There are similar ones like Szörnyek az útvesztõben. It's a pity, because those games are awesome, and they would be perfect for our platform.

I know that one was made on the VIC-20 for one of the minigame compo's and I seem to recall it having won a prize at it.

It is amazing we don't have a big library of these. I came a cross one for the XBOX 360 called Dungeon Adventure (indie game), it also has GFX tiles to replace the ASCII GFX. This was my first one, more an arcade quick blast version. A couple of days later I could then play it in ASCII as I understood what I was doing.

Really cool and I just thought Plus/4 straight away. This type of game would of ruled on our machine.
Did you know I hated the game Aliens back in the day, but going back to it now it reminds me of a kind of 3D Roguelike. I love it now and it was not a bad effort for it's time.
It's mad Csabo to see you talking about this very thing 5 years ago. Up until recently I had no idea what Roguelike was. One of my all time most loved games is Dungeon Master, but I never knew such awesome games were made from text alone.

Nice! Now that you brought it up, you're going to convert it, right? When can I play the Plus/4 version?

Hell, yeah... :P Looks just like the proper calibre challenge I can handle at the moment
BTW, Whack did indeed win a prize on the Minicompo in 2003, beating Orthopede in the 1k category.

As I remember there was this book: A kalandprogram írásának rejtelmei http://konyv.paradicsom.info/index.php?menu=konyv&down_id=3627&kat_id=48
It was mostly about writing text-based adventure games, but there was also chapters about how to implement rougelike games. It is possible that I mix up with other book or article from some magazine. I used to own this book, but I don't know where it might be right now, so I cannot check.
Anyway, it inspired some games, as I remember. I made a rougelike game based on these instructions called "A Sötétség birodalma", but it lost on some of my early tapes.

You're not mixing it up, that book is the one. I still own it. It discussed two games in detail: the first one was "Kardhalak és Kincsek" (Swordfish and treasure), a classic text adventure. The second was "Szörnyek az útvesztõben" (Monsters in Maze) which I linked above.
The original book is "Writing BASIC adventure programs for the TRS-80" by Frank DaCosta. The only reason I haven't added this to our publications collection is that it doesn't deal with the Plus/4 directly, but rather the TRS-80.
