Believe it or not, limiTED2 is very close to begin (4th March, my birthday!), and this is the official thread where to debate anything about it! Start your engines, sirs!

Mmmm...dunno, have some doubts, though you have your holy reasons: if we should dribble around every big party in order to avoid times'overlapping, probably we could close the case forever Moreover, the two events look soooo distant in genre and time consumption...
Anyway: let's hear opinions all around.

(Forgot to say this yesterday, duh!)
Well, there's pretty much only one big party left -- Breakpoint. I'm honestly thinking about doing something for limiTED 2, but don't really have any ideas right now -- and my limiTED (pun intended) free time slots for coding go to our BP demo, sorry. But do as you wish, it's your compo.

Luca Day Happy Birth! (Not wanting to sound like a parrot, I thought I'd switch it up a little. Buon Compleanno!)
I'll add to my previous point: if Uncle SJP will participate in the compo, the deadline must be extended. How can we miss the 15 year return of a heavyweight? IIRC, when we met on SceneCon 2007 you answered no to my question as to whether you'll ever return to the Plussy.

Sdw: the "temporary download area" will be activated in the voting phase only, and will contain .prg files alone. Once the competition will close its doors, all the demos will be collected with sources, additional texts and all the accessories the coder wanna add in You can see the first edition as an example. Hence, sign your source shooting fireworks too ;)

From the above it should be clear that we're leaning towards extending the deadline. Since Edhellon haven't replied yet, let me ask you: what would be a reasonable deadline (considering you're both busy with coding Breakpoint)?

I'm in favor of extending the deadline, too. Not because I'm participating but because I'd like to see some more entries. What about April, 25th? It's a Saturday and 4/25 fits the plus/4's 25th birthday And it would leave some time for those who attend Breakpoint and need to recover aftwards.

Hi Csio,
I just made it for fun, as anyhow it should be banned (not anonym). Unfortunately I was not ready with my mandelbrot generator made for 512byte compo, so decided to put together something I will be SURELY ready I will release separately after some fine-tuning on speed.

The competition rules are open for a wild and nasty unfair voting session, you know Nonetheless, I would invite to the vote for those who entered the compo but haven't voted yet: it's a gentleman's acting to those who joined in and have given a vote for your demo while not giving it to their own.

Dudes, I wake up right now, this night I've come back home at 4:40 and my head turns and turns all around because of glasses and glasses of absinthe. Lemme have a lunch ad a couple of coffees and I'll do my best.
Ouch headache, pain pain...

Great compo, and nice little "result-tro" Some damn close scores as well and in both cases I lost by a single point!
I'd be interested to here from Csio how he managed to guess from the ECM-plasma that I had a C64 background? (good guess btw.!)

How tricky Rachy you are! You are embedding a basic prg to draw the stars.
Ninja: How do you know about this $ffff trick? Is there something similar on VIC?
Csabo, I still don't understand.

And thank you for the organizers too.
@bubis
Well, you know: the most compact way of writing code is BASIC. Too bad that it is sooo slow to execute. BTW, in this particular category of demos, when the code must be ultra-compact, Plus/4 has lot more potentials than the C64, because of the advanced ROM routines.

limiTED2 was awesome. I have to say i really love our little scene for events like that. I also think limiTED should become an annual thing - not just because its fun, but its also a scene-reviving event.

First of all, I also want to thank the organizers (and especially Luca) for doing this event again. It has been very nicely executed and we even have this "resultro", great work.
About my entry and the similarity to "Borderless": It looks the same, but in fact, it is quite different technically. Actually, the sine effect is more or less only there to present the underlying technique to cross the border. On the C64 it meant setting up _sprites_, stretch them while removing sideborder and such. For the C16, it meant to find out how to get a constant _idle byte_ (or ghostbyte as it is called on C64). So, quite different approach, especially as the latter one seems to have never been used before. The only thing that was reusable was a skeleton of the BASIC sine generator which doesn't look too different from the other entries, after all
bubis: Yeah, the ghostbyte is available on VIC, too. I was pretty sure the TED works very similar regarding idle cycles (I mean, what should it do else, it has to read something). That idea was in my head since limiTED1, I just never took the time to play around before.
ian_coog: BTW, it is not half the size, but 83%. Then again, it is hires resolution and half the code size, FWIW.
gaia: I think the flickering in YAPE is because the byte from $ffff is latched (at least) one cycle too early. Could this be true? I could write a small test routine for that next week.

Luca, and all the "managers" ! Thank you for the results, your continuous efforts and the great resultstro! I am listening this music since 15 minutes very good Special thanks to you spending a complete page on me, despite of memory limit...
BTW, only one question: how my little greet became 99 blocks on the disc? OMG, it was only 4 when I sent it It would be even more lame to spend 99 blocks on such a simple code... (if anyone interested, I tried Autrospeed: effect became ~3-4x faster, but 10x bigger)

@MMS:
(if anyone interested, I tried Autrospeed: effect became ~3-4x faster, but 10x bigger) I'm interested in: was your source in Basic? Or did you included ML code inside a compiled Basic-loader? (P.S. the code is bigger because of the Austro runtime routine)

Hi SVS, It was just a pure BASIC, nothing special. (the Greet you can download from LimiTED2)
Sure, the running code in the compiled program need some space. I can confirm, that the FOR routine became much faster. (although if it would be 3x more faster than the end-result, would have a similar speed as a bady written ML code )

@MMS: you can use integer variable inside FOR...NEXT so that running becomes even faster

Hi, tanks for the hint, I will try it. But if I remember well, if I do not use "." or "-" signs, then the BASIC3.5 interpreter wil treat it as integer. Or the Austrospeed works differently?

@MMS
Not exactly, every variable is floating point typed if you didn't specify the % (integer) or the $ (string) postfix. Like:
A=12.3 PRINT A
Result is
12.3
A%=12.3 PRINT A%
Result is
12
But oddly you cannot specify explicitly integer variable at the FOR iteration:
FOR A%=1 TO 10
causes syntax error. I don't know why.
On the other hand, using explicitly integer typed variable isn't faster at all, according to my experiences. It is even slower... (Most likely because of processing the extra character in the name of the variable.)

| Re: limiTED2 - official thread
Few months back I tried that A% in the FOR routine, after you mentioned it in post. At that time I got error message. I did not pur more efforts on that, I though I just missed to read some "basic" info. Now I just read again a Hungarian book from Ury Laszlo, and well described the setting for normal variables like A%, like A%=2. In fact, your example is exactly I mentioned, that if at the setting you use a pont (.) or after an operation it generates a non-integer, the A become floating point too.
Any idea, how to do it then? Or you just confirmed with this post that it does not work to speed up the FOR routine in this way? Anyhow Austro did it's task, but I respect and thank any comment how I can speed up BASIC code (it is sometimes really slow )

| Re: limiTED2 - official thread
Summarizing: a) Austrospeed can run FOR with integer variables; b) If you have an integer STEP, then a good speed increment is obtained c) if you store a decimal value (like 1.47) into an integer variable, the value is rounded and stored as integer (1.47 is stored as 1; 1.53 is stored as 2). Following operations of course will use *that* rounded value.
