Thanks everyone! I will now apply to become a member and I will look at other games as well. Makes total sense.
Over the years I have been participating in this forum, but it's difficult for me to reliably show up. I have a very busy job with lots of responsibilities, have a wife and three kids, a dog, a house with a large vegetable garden, and at least 5 more hobbies
Csabo, if you give me something like a PayPal address, I will donate some money for the server costs.

Reporting some comments from the very toxic social networks out there:
- a user found an analogy with a C64 game: Topografie Europa. I didn't have an idea!
- a user asked for expansion modules, per nation and worldwide
For all the resting questions, I second Csabo: enter the place! Apropo, do you know that there's a GameDev competition running right now?

| Re: New game: Geography Europe
After playing with this for a while here's my (wide ranging) feedback:
The game is great for what it is! The map is clear and nice, the helicopter looks decent. The little scrolling issues are forgivable. The idea is simple, but it works.
I wish you would have spent more time polishing the game and - much more importantly - seeking player testing and feedback before release. There are so many of us here who would love to test games, give feedback, help with coding/graphics/music, etc. For this game specifically, I would immediately have some ideas:
- Display the country before the city. Unless this was intentional, I think that would help a lot. I think I'm fairly good at geography, but a bunch of times, I had to stop when I saw an unfamiliar city, wait for the country to show, then move in the given direction.
- After a grace period (let's say 10 seconds?) display an 8 directional arrow to help out the poor player to show them roughly what direction they are supposed to go.
- Perhaps some options, such as "easy mode: capitals only"?
Otherwise... I've looked at your game, tested it, played with it, did the little bug fix to make it work in YAPE... Do you think it's reasonable for me to expect that you would look at my game? I dropped Quadrillion 21 years ago, and released one or two since then... Where were you? Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to hijack the thread or make this about me; I'm saying this in a very general sense. You didn't react to yesterday GBC16 game either. There are so few people on the planet who would care about the Plus/4, but you are apparently one of them. Why not become a member here? It's free! As a member, you can vote, add your own programs (don't have to ask us to do it for you), send PMs, etc.
(Well, it is free, but I will mention that I'm just some random guy running this site from my mom's basement and paying for hosting out of my own pocket. If like 20 people decided to donate 2 bucks per month, at least the hosting would be covered. I guess that is too much to expect, don't sweat it.)
But you know, my point is... Be here, participate! I can't fathom why people don't comment, but now that we have reactions, honestly how much does it cost to click a thumbs up for new games like Green Beret C16?
Anyway, that's it: game is good (congrats again on your first release!), do more testing, hope to see more from you, participate more.

Thanks Luca, you're right. You do get additional time, but it will take longer to display the country name. Your high score is impressive. Seems like you know your geography!
What do you mean with the scrolling needing triggering here and there? I scroll one char at a time in 4 smooth scroll steps. It uses double buffering when the whole char has been scrolled. The problem is the diagonal scrolling, getting the helicopter to stay in one place, and to allow the helicopter to fly into the margins.
Maybe there are more efficient ways of doing it than I did. I need to revisit some code I think you shared with me a couple of years ago on how to put multi-color sprites on a background without using a mask.

Technically that multidirectional scrolling would need some triggering here and there, sure... Buy hey, it's a very lovable firstie, I appreciate it a lot, especially due to the game design: if I've seen with attention, after few seconds the game suggests the nation; there's a +1' bonus at any 25 cities, but the suggestion gets slower, and definitely disappear after the 50th city. Challenging indeed!
Congratulation, I casted my vote and deposited my hiscore, well done. Can't wait for your sophomore one.

Wow, awesome idea for a game, even if it's originally done by Radarsoft. Great to see your first P4 assembly game.

I think you're right, the issue might be when/how you're setting the IRQ. I compressed it with Exo and added a vblank sync, it seems to work now!

Csabo, let me know if you need the source code. It looks like a problem with the raster IRQ. I might have done something unconventional, since this really is my first time doing it.

Fixed, sorry about that.
This is what it looks like in the latest version of YAPE, no matter what settings I use:

Which would be super odd, I don't think I've seen any programs that VICE could handle, but YAPE couldn't.

Thanks Csabo! I developed on YAPE 0.71.1 (on a Mac), and it works for me. I also confirmed everything works on the real machine.
Can you please correct my name to Hendriks, not Hendricks, in the game entry? Thanks!

The upload worked, the game is now up: Geography Europe!
Is it just me, or does this crash on YAPE? I can get it to run on Plus4Emu and VICE, which is odd.

Ok, let's pack it and put out then
To be clear: you must drag the picture into the message editing field, while writing.

| Re: New game: Geography Europe
Thanks Luca, the drag & drop doesn't work for me, or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I tried three different browsers. I have JPEG images, that should work right?
I don't think I want to fix the raster. It wiggles a little bit every now and then, but I don't think it's distracting. I'll get it right with my next game.

Congrats Hendriks for the completion of your game!
When you need to upload images to post here, simply drag and drop'em on this message window: it will be uploaded, and the full link of it will magically appear (great feature, isn't it?).
You can send the game using the Upload, easy as it appears to be
If you ask for a compression (crunching) of your file, we can do it for you. On the other hand, if you feel that the raster – or other stuff – is worth to be improved, don't ask for a public release yet, and call for an help here.l, I'm quite sure that your request won't be missed.
Keep up!

Okay, I just saw the upload functionality and have uploaded it as europe.prg. I assume the mods need to look at it and make it available for everyone.

Hi there Plus/4 friends!
I just finished my first Plus/4 game written completely in machine language !!
You fly a helicopter over a map of Europe and have to find cities before the timer runs out. I have screenshots, but can't seem to find a way to upload them on this forum. Here's an imgur album with two screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/SsUaapH
My 15 year old self would be proud. I saw a similar game on the Commodore 64 back in 1984 in the Netherlands from a company called Radarsoft. I have been playing around with the Plus/4 since 1985, and I still learned a lot from this effort.
How do I upload it here, so that people can try it out and give me feedback?
I confirm it works on the real hardware and it works on Yapes.
It only works with the first joystick port. It takes ages to load because I didn't go for things like compression and fastloaders. If somebody wants to help me optimize, let me know. Also, I can't - for the life of me - get a perfect stable raster and have vertical scrolling at the same time. I know what the problem is, and I know the theory behind fixing it, but it would require me to rewrite half of the game to get it right. Next, game ...
