 Re: World Cup 2014

It was 50-50 game. Germany was the last 10 years under the best four. I live in Germany, I don't like when they win, but this team was really good and deserved the title.
Congrats to Germany.

We became number 3. Nobody here in Holland expected that, so we are proud of what the players have done!!

 Re: World Cup 2014

Out of the 4 teams left I'd say Argentina on the whole are the best team. Brazil started really well the other night but they faded in the 2nd half... Holland and Germany haven't been that impressive either which leads me to believe the final might be all South American.

EDIT:
Brazil 1 - Germany 7
At 2-0 down you knew the 3rd was going in leading up to it, I even joked a 3rd would go in. 5-0 down I started wondering if I was dreaming, it made you feel sick and sorry for Brazil all at the same time and I'm sure even Germany were feeling sorry for them at the 5-0 point. If anyone was to blame I'd point the finger at HULK, his passing was a joke and the last player to touch the ball for Brazil when it was 0-0. ;-)

 Re: World Cup 2014

It's basically South America vs Northern Europe in the two semi finals now. And considering no European team has ever won the trophy in South America, it's really starting to get interesting.

I'd like to see Holland win it this year seeing as they are the only team left who hasn't yet won it (which is surprising), they were so close yet so far last time.

 Re: World Cup 2014

You should get into footie at least temporarily just to cheer on your country, they're playing tomorrow. It's the biggest tournament in the world and the USA are doing really well and have a good chance of making the quarter finals. They last made the quarters in 2002, but what surprised me is that they actually reached the semi-final in 1930, the year the tournament was founded. Also between 1950/1990 they hadn't qualified at all, but since then they have been on the rise again, the sport really does seem to be taking off over there.

They're the country I'm now rooting for (as my fiancee is from Fort Collins herself, not far from you). The sport I like over there is Baseball, I've been to Coors Field to see the Rockies play (can't recall who against but the homies won it) wink

Darts was more demanding back in the day when beer and smokes were allowed in play, like wise Snooker haha!

But yeah I'll watch and enjoy a bit of Darts and Snooker now and then. These are trades I picked up from my dad. happy

 Re: World Cup 2014

I don't mind the World Cup & European Cup when they come round as it brings people together and lifts the spirits of each nation for as long as the team is playing.
I can't stand club football though and have no interest in it. Rather watch the so called best of each country battling it out. happy

I used to be fan of F1 for a good number of years but after Ayrton Senna had died and then making do with Damon Hill & Michael Schumacher fighting it out which was not the same I started to get fed up with it. Sky winning the rights to show it live on TV in recent times is another reason not to watch it.

There is one sporting event I look forward to watching every year of which has to be the most demanding of all sports ever conceived and is such a joy to watch... That honor goes to the Tour de France.

 Re: World Cup 2014

Italian football's project for WC'14 has simply failed merely, and no refs or vampires can be waved to seek for a good reason for. After having scored no goal in two matches, the plane to home is well deserved.

 Re: World Cup 2014

Totally out of order when Luis Suarez stuck his teeth into Giorgio Chiellini last night in the Italy vs Uruguay game and was never sent off!
From what I could make out Giorgio previously stopped Suarez from scoring long before it all happened and maybe Suarez was pissed so waited to do it on the sly when the referee was not looking...

Fifa are saying Suarez could be facing a lengthy ban so he should miss the last 16 for sure, not that will help with Italy going home from that game.

 Re: World Cup 2014

Oh, go away.

But yeah our defence is shocking, this is the first time England are heading for an early first round WC exit since 1958. But we're not quite out yet, so long as Italy wins both their games and we thrash Costa Rica... erm ok, lol.

 Re: World Cup 2014

I totally agree there Patrick. Too much foreign talent in England's top league when more of our own should be nurtured for top flight international footie. This is why I feel England are going to be just mere group stagers in the future just there to make up the numbers.

 Re: World Cup 2014

As always though England's defense was poor. The first half Italy were passing until there was a lone man in a gap time and time again and that for them was working. England had lost the game right there if Italy continued on that path but no, they went for the long ball hoping. Things could of been worse for England than they might of been...

Yeah a shame with England having that amount of possession in the second half they never put anything away though and that's the annoying part. I wonder how many people wished David Beckham was there to take the free kicks and corners, I'm sure loads!!

Good win for Italy!

 Re: World Cup 2014

I think I'd enjoy international tournaments a lot more if England never qualified for them ever again. Honestly, that was a blatant penalty on Gerrard and the ref ignored it. It should have been 2-2
