Re: "Uwol: Quest for Money" for Commodore 16!

I've been playing it again this evening. I'm enjoying it a lot.

But it's missing something I feel is important to the game. There's no hi-score status, either above the playing area or on the title screen. Even a last score status on the title screen would do. The game ends and we don't get a real chance to see how well we did.

Is there any chance either the last score or both can be incorporated?, as it's definitely one of those games that need it (otherwise what's the point in the points?). It would also be fun to compete this in the hiscore competition over on the Commodore16 site wink

Nice little game... brings back memories of early Spectrum conversions (Blagger, at the first place... that I used to play for hours) and other, classic stuff from the golden era...

Re: "Uwol: Quest for Money" for Commodore 16!

Thanks for the kind words that were directed towards me, but all the glory should go to KiCHY. I had very little involvement (only the intro tune, and even that is a cover of the original).

To say that the game is really nice is an understatement happy The playability is top notch, the mood is awesome. KiCHY really outdid himself with this release!

I can honestly say I hope he doesn't stop any time soon. (It would be nice to see more releases from other people too.)

Well, here is what I really think of this game.

http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=437074#437074

After this success. Does anyone else agree that it would be a bigger more satisfying challenge to program games that work on an unexpanded C16? The trouble with you plussy owners (I have one too) is that you're a little more spoiled for memory. This game has successfully proved to be a real test in programming skills. A Psytronik release maybe?

Re: "Uwol: Quest for Money" for Commodore 16!

Well, listening to some spectrum musics on the youtube, I also had the feeling that C16 music was not used it's full capability. Just recently.
But to be fair with those great programmers of the past, at my young-hood I really enjoyed Pigmy's conversions, of Muffbusters intro musics, not to mention how much I was impressed with real-time digiSID, like laser squad intro with shadow of the beast title.
But the today routines brings much more out of the same circuitry.

Congratulations to the coder brought us this nice gem!

Why couldn't anyone get music like this and on "Adventures In Time" back in the 1980's? You guys make it sound like it comes from a SID

Awesmome happy

Respect to the original authors as well as to the entire team involved porting this to the C16! I really like that it is not exactly like the C64 nor the Spectrum version and has its own unique features while still being the same game.

(Next time make the tape version an autostarter, but that's just a tiny detail.)

Fantastic job guys. Unexpanded C16 conversions is always exciting news. I've let it be known on the main Commodore 16 blog and forum.

I'll download it onto my 1541 and have a bash at it later happy

"Uwol: Quest for Money" for Commodore 16!

UwolThe point here is: when you begin, you can't stop it! Kichy did it again!

The guy's on fire, you can see it crystal clear, the guy's totally on fire. And what did he take to all of us this time? Yes, another unexpected wonder: under the usual label Assassins, Kichy has converted the classic platform game originally coded on ZX Spectrum by The Mojon Twins, called Uwol: Quest for Money.
Jump run and pick coins into the creepy rooms of a doomed pyramid, avoid the foes and the seeking ghost, fight against time and falldowns, choose your own route into the pyramid. You'll be free once you get outside with 256 or more coins, or you'll be forced to walk around forever!

Kichy's Uwol conversion falls into the preexisting releases for Commodore 64 and SEGA Genesis, but it's more than a simple conversion: the game has been squeezed into one single file, being playable on Commodore 16/116/Plus4 (less than 15K!), regardless the original game's size. It has been a big work of choices, cutoffs, recoding and redrawing. But he got success at last: Uwol is officially a C16 release, as it perfectly works on every 264 series machine! This is a result to celebrate, and there's no better way to do that than with a wonderful original intro jingle conversion performed by Csabo/LOD, powered with TED+digi in order to rock the drums more!

Download Uwol, both on disk and tape!
