Instructions
Deutsch:

English:

Dear user, I hereby congratulate you on your purchase of Warpdos. You are receiving the most powerful fast loader for the Plus/4 (c16/c116 64k).

Installation:

Open the Plus/4 by loosening the screws on the bottom. When the work is done, remove the keyboard. At the bottom left you can see five 28-pin ICs. Now remove the IC U24 (type designation: 318004-05). This is best done with a screwdriver by carefully levering out the IC. Then insert the WARPDOS 4.0 IC, but make sure that the notch of the IC matches the notch of the socket (it points upwards). If the EPROM is inserted incorrectly, it will inevitably be destroyed! Finally, drill a hole in a suitable place in the keyboard to install the switch.

The next step is to insert the circuit board into the floppy, which can be obtained in its entirety from Fraggle-Soft. For the hardware experts among you, here is the circuit to build:

You will need a 6264-15 8k static Ram, plus 1 or two 28-pin sockets and a few cables.
1. connect all pins from the 1551 Rom (u4) to the new 28-pin socket, except for pins 20/22/26 and 27.
2. connect pin 26 to +5V (located at pin 28).
3. Pin 17 from IC U7 (gate array) is connected to pin 20 and pin 22 of the socket for the 6264.
4. pin 27 of the 6264 is connected to pin 19 of IC U3 (6526).
Done. Now screw everything back in place and the hardware part is done.
Now switch on the plus/4. If the computer responds with the usual switch-on message, press the switch and press reset. Now insert the enclosed boot diskette, the new Dos will now be installed in a part of the Ram. This work is actually only done once a day when the FLOPPY is switched on.

Now you can see from the switch-on message that Warpdos is active.

Loading and saving are considerably accelerated in Warpdos mode (1551 Unit 8). Loading 200 blocks takes about 2.9 seconds, saving about 10 seconds. A floppy disk is formatted in 10 seconds. In addition, the start and end address are displayed during loading. Warpcopy, which is also on the boot diskette, makes full use of the speed of the new Dos. The compatibility of the new operating system is very high, all other peripherals except the datasette are still addressed. Programmes of 239 or more blocks can also be read or saved without any problems. However, if you should still have problems with the new Dos, this is not a problem, because you can switch between Warpcopy and the original operating system at almost any time without a crash.

It is also easier to load and start programmes: If there is no module (3-Plus-1, external...) on F1, you load the directory with F3 and place the cursor at the beginning of the line of the unlocking programme. If you now press F1, the programme is automatically loaded and started.
