| Millennium Bug | Superbase certainly is one of the most sophisticated applications ever released for the Plus/4. There is, however, an obstacle for using Superbase nowadays: the program is not Y2K compliant. The DATE field type (which is, eg. for the 15th January, 2000 in the format 15JAN00) is limited to 7 spaces only in which the year is a 2-digit-expression. Since the date basis for Superbase is the 31st December, 1899, all date calculations will be correct until 31st December, 1999. Beyond 31.12.1999, Superbase will start counting again as from 31.12.1899. The Superbase CONVERT command (which calculates the number of days from 31.12.1899 to the given date) would display for 15.01.2000 a value of 15 rather than 36,565. Thus the DATE field and the CONVERT command should not be used any longer. May be replaced by a TEXT field with a date string like 20000115 or 000115 or else. BASIC provides an easy way to extract parts out of a string and putting them into variables. |
