Subject: Cartridge port extensions proposal
|
While working on the Magic Voice -> 264 series convertor I have been thinking about adding extra lines to the cartridge port, so that the cartridge doesn't require patch wires coming from inside the machine.
There are 3 unused contacts - Z, AA and BB - although Z has 'RAMEN' in brackets by the NC in the schematics I have. I was wondering if there are any previous standards for adding extra lines, and if not, what people thought of the following proposal:
Z becomes F0 on the PLA ($FD20 - $FD2F) for speech chip select
AA and BB become either F2 ($FD10 - $FD1F) and F3 ($FD00 - $FD0F) for the user port and ACIA or D1 from both halves of the 74LS139 decoder for the Function ROMs
Since all the above functions are used in the plus/4, this is only really of any use on the C16 and 116. Which are more useful to other hardware hackers? Are there any other lines people would prefer to see? I want this to be a good 'standard' :)
