Hi there...
As everybody seems to answer the question about disk drives I will certainly add my bit.
The 1581 works on plus/4 (Actually, I own one. However, I borrowed it a long time ago to one of my friends. Just recently he told me he still has it :) Lucky me!) Of course the FAST SERIAL or BURST MODE is not supported. On C64 the fast serial bus can be implemented easily by adding a simple line to the userport. But I guess it's not possible that way on plus/4.
The 1551 drive is the REAL THING. Mine gave up a couple of months ago :( SOLDER said it's probably the R/W Head and it can´t be fixed. Those drives are really hard to find... Or the prices are way too high.
It's much easier to get a 1541-II... Try to get an "old" 1541-II which ejects the disk when opening the lever/handle. These are much better than newer 1541-IIs... They allow faster FASTLOADS and the drive mechanics seem to be of a better quality.
The big CBM drives (SFD 1001...) require an interface. Hendrik Lipka managed to connect a 2031 (or so...) to the plus/4. He used to have a webpage... Try to find a link on SOLDER's homepage.
Btw, TCFS, are you still there? I remember that you owned a 1581 aswell. Have you ever coded a FASTLOAD? I know that Mr.L of TEK (a German coder) wanted to code one based on ZAPLOAD from the DEMO DISK but I never heard of him again.
Levente,
glad that you are still around. Please participate in the X-MAS DEMO. I already started "thinking"... It`ll be called
5 1/4" OF SNOW Brillo name, huh? (So it can be a WINTER demo... In case we have to delay the release date... Maybe X-MAS 2000 is a more realistic approach?!)
Hey Mike, what about an X-MAS Lemming part? (Btw, one of my younger bros just played GTA on PlayStation... I saw "DMA" and told him "Let me see the Credits!"... Guess what I found? :) )
I really liked that one, Lemmings that is, not GTA!
Marko,
I think I know the same PET emulator... I got it along with a bunch of PET BASIC games. One supports SOUND VIA USERPORT (Neato idea!) However, since it made some noise on my c128 it has probably been modified. Want a disk of those ATARI and SPECTRUM emulators?
Luca,
which programs are you using for SID composing? I know there's a FC version which supports SIDCARDS (support added by BIONIC) but it's a bit buggy. APOS added SID support to TCFS's SOUNDBOOSTER but I don´t have it. Or do you have a C64?
See ya,
Chicken
