 | An Afterthought About the 1581
If anyone has looked at the specifications for the C65 (C64DS), you might notice that the DOS for the built-in 3.5" floppy drive is based on the 1581 DOS, and differences are notated in the C65 development specs.

These same specs also detail how GEOS uses 'unused' space on the 3.5" diskettes, so if anyone needs info on how to manipulate GEOS files on their Plus/4, you might find some ideas there.

 | C65 DOS Documentation
 http://www.zimmers.net/cbmpics/cbm/c65/CHAPTER3.TXT

This file documents BASIC 10.0 for the Commodore 65 (C64DS), as well as some machine language routines. C65 DOS information is about 7/8 of the way down the document.

Presuming that Berkeley Softworks used the free space on the 1541 similarly to the way they did on the 1581, this info should be sufficient to detect filetypes, GEOS date/time stamps, etc.
