fault for some reason my my plus 4 is behaving oddly, the title screen is displayed but the keyboard doesnt register on the screen and the data cassette won't run! anyone got any ideas?
You'll need another Plus/4 or 16 to swap parts from for proper diagnosis. Cassette operations and keyboard are both controlled by TEDl. (TED is the chip under the metal cover.)
