OMG This is a wicked idea and the guy must be twisted. Couldn't he at least use a 1541 instead of a 1551... would not have made a difference.

You gave me an idea with the cow-mod. The guy who made the 1551 mod, should be himself modded into a sewing machine

Why are you all astonished? Me too, I've transformed my grass-cutting machine into a mobile PC!

i remember seeing a recent mod of a 1571... except that the drive still works and there's now a C64DTV board living inside the case with it! =-)

I could live with _that_ but not a PC in a 1551 case... such a waste when the 1551's are so scarce anyways...

But if it was a completely irrepairable 1551, would it be such a waste?

Are you sure, that it was a "completely irrepairable" 1551?
BTW, even if like that (say, it needs a 6510T, 6530 or PLA replacement), I kinda consider that a silly movement... There are loads of broken, standard 1541's that are mechanically similar to the 1551; IMHO he shouldn't have wasted a rare 1551 case + mech + board for this kind of playing.

Indeed. I read somewhere that there were only 5000 1551's were produced.

csak az a baj az ilyen beépítésgetősös dolgokkal, hogy mire belereszeli a tag, addigra elavul a pc-je
the bad thing is this: By the time you finish building the PC into the case mod, is becomes obsolete.

Yeah. You are right. I think it IS alrredy obsolete. =D
I have made a reverse Case mod, fitting a C64+PS/2 convertors + VGA Converter + 1581 + retro replay into a tiny desktop that is as wide as the 1084 monitor...Also i made a case mod out of my old 1541. but its only a 486 as a server for C64, Atari st/TT and amiga over serial port. =D
