 A Website Upgrade...

...has been in the works for quite a while. Today it's available for testing, go to Options. This will be the new default for the site, starting "very soon", provided that no-one has any objections. If you don't really care for it, you'll always be able to switch back to one of the older "skins".

Besides the fact that the newer site is faster loading, won't break when larger fonts are used, it also has a few other advantages, such as the search bar right on the top. There's another feature that's coming up which will be right next to the search bar: it will show the current status (online/offline) of your selected "friends".

Other than this, there are a few other things in the works, such as stricter security, and some modifications to the PM system.

Speak up, I love to get feedback.

EDIT: the 'stricter security' thingie is on. This will affect logged in members only. All you should notice is that next time you give a hit to the site, you'll be transferred to the index page. You can now resume Plus4Worlding in an orderly manner. If anyone experiences problems (e.g. you get logged out), email me.

This looks very pleasant. However, the Boss-key is TOTALLY AMUSING, i've lost my consciousness when i saw it and i'm still recovering :D

Yeah, the boss key is cool wink Couple that with F11 (full screen browsing) and you're good. But there sould be more versions, e.g. Office XP look as well happy

 More News

Update: The PM change is done as well. This was requested by several people. From now on, PM's sent to members who are admins will only show if they are logged on. Everyone else (non-members and members who are not admins) should be able to communicate as before. Let me know if there are any problems.

Remember, if you're using a public computer, log out at the end of your session if you don't want others to read your PM's!

I don't like the color of the new skin, I prefer the coolblue.

Great work Csabo! happy
I'm not sure to have understood what you wrote about the PM's to admins: maybe they could to see their messages without to be logged?
A request wink since the messages are saved somewhere in the server, I think useful a feature allowing the scan of sent/received old messages.
Thank you very much.

Guys, also have a play with the "Font size adjustment" option. I normally use zero, on the new look I changed it to 3 which I thought looked better...?

 Re: A Website Upgrade...

Although very nice, I sadly had come back to the classic layout: the new site is quite good, but it lacks of sharpness. I'd given time to my eyes in order to habit them to the new smooth colo palette, but they paied me with a neglectful way of read news.

 Re: A Website Upgrade...

Csabo,

I know its work in progress, but these new colours look good! Hey the logo has turned out very neat and that font you have used is cool. happy

Its amazing how much it has changed the way everything looks just by changing the colours.

I'm sure your going to but just in case, Logo needs to be moved over to the right a coulpe of pixels. Search feature moved over to the far right or centre right away from logo. Maybe the search box its self white if it can be done?

Looking good!

 Re: A Website Upgrade...

I added a little feature to the site, it records the current (and past) settings of every member who visits. (Only available for admins of course.) This told me two things: 1) we have exactly 20 members who are more or less regular visitors 2) Almost, but not quite, exactly no-one is using the new skin yet - and some people already seem to have their favourites.

So it's back under construction, and the few extra features that this skin implements and the others don't - I went back and implemented it here and there.

I like the new colors as well. But tons of things have not yet been changed so it looks messy. What I'd like to do with the logo is another new skin-dependent feature that does not exist yet: the index page will have the full logo centered (which you can see now) and nothing next to it. (There's already a search box on the index page anyway.) All other pages will have a smaller logo and the search box + the upcoming "friends" box next to it. (Here's the smaller version of the logo: [ click ]. I'll probably make another announcement once it looks decent enough to be checked out.

 Re: A Website Upgrade...

It was a nice suprise to wake up to. happy

The small logo looks ok. Need to see what you have in mind.

and what of the headers colours as in the 'news' topics etc.. Am I right in saying they are the old green? To be honest they look good being a differnt colour. If your not going with the colour they are now how about my old "F KEYS menu headers" look a likes in that grey? As an idea of coures... Being a different colour brakes things up, looking at the news page each iteam header stands out well and even the colour they are now it suits it. If you were to make them like the green before, a shade of the current colour then things may look a little lost, well thats only my thoughts.

 Re: A Website Upgrade...

@Csabo: the new color is surely better and more readable, thanx.
A tip: inside boxes of received PMs, the buttons [Clear] [Reply] could be placed "vertically piled" so that the text needs less lines and screen could show more messages. (I'm used to maintain the PMs I received until I have made what ppl asks me for, or often I have no time to reply immediately).

P.S. I'm keen to see the friends photo-icons happy happy feature!
See you (excellent work!)

 Re: A Website Upgrade...

Looking good Csabo. It might be an idea to make the C=p4w image a direct link to the index page as if its a tab to the front end.. ?

When ever your happy to do so I say make this the default look. happy

 Re: A Website Upgrade...

Right, that's exactly what I wanted to do with the smaller logo, but apparently forgot happy Thanks for reminding me. It's really getting there, I'm still adding little touches here and there.

And thanks for the thumbs up, I guess it will eventually be a new default.

Done and done! Very cool icon, love it. Thanks for the contribution. Now only the server's cache would refresh already...
