I've purchased and then dumped the tape of Motor-Way, a commercial Italian hack of Autobahn, and now I have some questions about this game.
Question 1
Our notes about the game, report:"Original version only works good for the unexpanded C16. PRG files are fixed to run flawlessly on any machine".
I tested the tape on YAPE in full Plus/4 configuration, and the game looks like working flawlessly. What am I missing here? Is there someone who has an explanation for this?
Question 2
Motor-Way is a straight copy of the unchanged original, it loads the same way, with an initial loader which sets a purple background. But: the original copy we have, loads the main program with a nameless file, whereas this commercial crack loads the main program which has been titled as AUTOBAHN.
My guess is: the two different original releases by Tynesoft – one with COLOURED background on the cover, and BLUE text on the cassette label; one with BROWN background in the cover, and RED text on the cassette label – also indicate two different game's releases which can be spotted by that filename. Basically, Motor-Way is the straight copy of one of the two possible versions, the one which we didn't share before.
Could this guess be for real? Is there someone who can test his copy in order to see if that's true, and then which is which?
Side note: both the official covers don't report any reference to C16 or Plus/4. Weird!
