| Site Updates
The forum avatars have been broken for a while, they have been fixed. You should be seeing them now (unless you turned them off under options). The handling for them has been completely rewritten (it's now more efficient and less resource intensive), please let me know if you see anything odd.
As always, comments/ideas/feature requests about the site are welcome! |

Send me the new one (80x80 image) in a PM Edit: I've updated it (site might cache it for a while), you can still PM me a newer one if needed. |

New feature on the forum: by putting >(space) in front of a line of text, it will automatically become a quote. Should work even when it's nested.
An example: > > Someone says something. > Then someone else replies.
will become
Someone says something. Then someone else replies.
That's it! |

A couple of minor fixes: - sometimes on the Search results, a warning was shown (fixed) - on software pages, the [ add ending ] link was placed oddly (moved with the other links) - when receiving a PM from someone that replies to an earlier message, the "<- Replies to" link didn't work... Now it does
This last one was pretty annoying, I'm surprised no one complained about it |

Circling back to keeping track of releases: the last piece of this section of the site has been added today.
On software pages, under releases, you should see a new link that says [ See owned copies ]. Clicking that link will produce a page like this, where each owned copy is listed - and, if you're looking to buy one, maybe one of them is marked as "for trade" or "for sale".
There's also a BIG page which lists all owned releases, it's probably not that useful by itself. Click " Show Only For Trade or Sale" for a shorter (and maybe more useful) list.
Let me know if there's anything missing from these newly added pages! |

A couple of minor updates to the editing interface: - For fields that are meant to be true/false (e.g. marking an owned cassette for trade or for sale), instead of a text field with 0 or 1, there's now a checkbox. Hopefully everyone will find this more user friendly - To prevent accidentally cutting off input, text fields will turn red if the typed value is too long (and the number of characters typed / maximum is shown). |

Some updates that you might be interested in:
* When posting code that's wrapped in <pre> and </pre> tags, the < and > signs will NOT be converted. (In other words, the site won't mangle your BASIC code such as IF A < B THEN ...) In addition, when a smaller-than/greater-than sign has spaces around it, it will also NOT be converted. TBH this should have been fixed since forever, but I guess better late than never. Big thanks to @gerliczer for pointing this out. * In the encyclopedia, you can create horizontal lines with three (or more) underscores in one line, just like in markdown. Thanks to @BSz for working with me on this one. * In tables created with pipe characters, you can use the --- lines to specify the table header. This also means that you copy/paste the the code from Plus/4 World's plain editor to a markdown capable WYSIWYG editor, tables should work. Thanks to @siz for bringing this to my attention!
Got issues with the site? Lemme know, maybe it'll get fixed In this day and age (have you seen the word of the year?), I hope you guys appreciate that Plus/4 World is getting (slightly) better and better, which would not be possible without all of you guys. |

A quick update:
After looking through the PHP logs, I've added ".bas" and ".fre" to the allowed extensions for PM file uploads. For full transparency, here's the current list:
"asm", "bas", "txt", "prg", "d64", "d81", "tap", "fre", "bin", "rom", "crt", "zip", "rar", "gif", "jpg", "jpeg", "png" 1 1 |

I have just noticed that .bin files are not allowed in "Upload a file to Plus/4 World staff", is this intended? |

Thanks! That was quick!
Another report, this time about the new "reactions" feature: I'm not sure one should be allowed to react to their own posts. Well, maybe yes, I don't know, just think about it! |

| Re: Site Updates
I think other, uglier sites don't disallow this... There's no strong reason for us to do that either.
IMHO the only usage of this feature should be to react to a post written by someone else when you're not already replying. However, that's not a rule, you guys are welcome to use it any way you like
Also, I'd be open to adding more reactions, if needed, but generally they should be things that are simple and can't be misinterpreted. For example "I agree" / "Love it" are simple enough... But when someone disagrees or dislikes something, then they should reply and explain what/why. 1 |

| Re: Site Updates
The 3rd big update I was planning for this year on P4W is done, it is "CustomizationOptions" for members. If you edit your own page, you should see this field.
Advanced (Program) Search and Forum Reactions proved to be popular, I assume this one won't be used that much, which is fine. In case you ever wondered "I wish my own Member page wasn't done like that", now you (members) have the option to do something about it. For some examples of what can be done, take a look at my page. In short, you can add new sections, rearrange sections, customize sections, etc.
In addition, member pages can be linked to ... in a way so that only certain sections are shown. The idea is, maybe Crown would want to give someone a list of his owned releases, in that case the link would be /members/Crown/OwnedReleases. Multiple section can be included, e.g. /members/Chronos/HOF,Publications. In case the "Details" section is not included (like these two examples), a link to the entire page itself is added at the top.
If someone wants to avoid all these customizations, e.g. look at my page with all my releases in a single table, you can do so like this: /members/Csabo/default.
I realize these are a bit superfluous, but oh well, the possibilities are there if case you want them, they won't get in anyone's way if you don't.
The only problem is, editing this field is a bit complicated, if someone wants to use it, PM me. If there's a need, eventually it'll be documented.
Okay, with that out of the way; there's still a few things worth mentioning: * In general, the Members pages do less database querying (=hopefully higher site stability) * The backbone of all this is a new internal "grid" function, which now has all the features of the various grids that were on the site. This includes custom formatting depending on the current style, better column resizing for mobile devices (see an example here), and an option to limit the number of rows (like the HOF page does it). If you see pages on the site that look particularly bad on mobile (or if you have any issues with the site really), let me know. 1 |

| Re: Site Updates
The driving force behind this was that my own page was getting too long. 70+ maps, 150+ HVTC entries, 200+ releases, 250+ HOF entries... I was like "this just looks too plain" and hard to read through. HVTC for example I grouped by year, that's an interesting view. For pages that look like this, none of this matters the least bit (Nothing against Bear, I picked him because he coded yesterday's Game Of The Day, for which I made a new map.)
One more thing I forgot to mention: the tables that are using the new "grid" function can be sorted in place by clicking the column headers (only if your browser is very modern and has this newfangled thing called JavaScript enabled). This probably need some better UI, but again, I'm not sure how important it is, or if it'll get much use.
Anyway, for now this is done, I can move on to other developments |
