| Solved: Recovered my disks from 1987 and onwards
I thought I would never see my code and programs again. Last time I used my 1551 it was in 1994... Geez.
Finally I could copy 83 disks, many with errors at tracks > 31. I will have to go through them over the next couple of days. Will see. I have already found a few programs, that do not exist in the Plus4World archive: - ZX Spectrum tape converter/loader for C116/C16/Plus4 with a full assembly source code (comments in Czech) - Czech accented chars
Now given that I have a full log of xum1541 copy, how can I easily tell which program has been safely copied? Is it easily traceable in the BAM? Any simple tool that can do the trick?

DirMaster is able to search for chain links, plus several other facilities. It's strange indeed you got so many similar errors from so many disks, I would check the 1551 head's cleanness and setting.

Thanks Luca. I will give it a try over the weekend. It's 1541c (that I purchased some time ago), to work with xum1541 over the serial cable.

Luca is right: most probably the head movement rail needs to be cleaned and that's why it can't position correctly on the inner tracks resulting in read errors.

It was JiffyDOS. I purchased the 1541c with JiffyDOS and apparently xum1541 defaults to JiffyDOS. That's nice and fast, but it apparently cannot read old disks. I forced the original mode (slow) and most of the disks copied like a charm. The TCBM is such a reliable protocol that I can copy disks formatted/saved 32 years ago. Kudos to CBM engineers. I also tried to clean the head with alcohol to no avail. Will try to treat my head with alcohol tonight instead.
