Commodore 16 Cardboard Shielding, keep or not to keep?

I'm guessing... Commodore UK stopped using this shielding in C16's at some point to reduce heat? Also we know, the keyboard has enough metal in it's make up to do almost the same job and why a Plus/4 never had one other than what was used to cover & cool the TED chip...

That said, is it common practice to remove this cardboard shielding from C16's today and just bin it seeing as most of them don't have one?

You can take it out and keep it somewhere else. It will be much more sufficient to apply heat sinks to the critical chips: TED - CPU - PLA.

Cheers Hans,

The cardboard shield was used originally to support the FCC Part 15 compliant (Class B Digital Device) rule where home electronics had to be prevented from interfering with Radio and TV reception.

In today's Digital world it's the mobile phone that is the main cause of any interference you may get with Radio and TV signals, (if a phone is placed too close to such equipment) from incoming text messages...
