|  1551 - drive number problem
Hello.
I've recently bought CPlus4 and 1551 drive. However, the drive is set by default to 9 and I have no idea how to change that, my electronics knowledge is, well, just basic. The drive looks untouched inside or no obvious modifications. Is there a simple way to revert it back to 8? It would be really handy and helpful!

The User's Guide gives two methods.
The first is a software method;
PRINT#15,"%n"
where n = 8
The second is a hardware method:
Leaving out the dis-assembly instructions:
4. Carefully turn drive right side up
5. Remove two screws on side of metal housing covering the main circuit board
6. Remove the housing
7. Locate the device number jumper. It will be a small round silvery spot (solder pads) on the main circuit board
8. (I am assuming that that the two halves of the jumper have been cut) Solder the two halves back together.
9.Re-assemble.

A better solution, still with Basic electronic knowledge, could be to solder 2 wires to the 2 halves and put a switch at opposite side of the wires that can allow the contact (#9) or interrupt the contact (#8).
This solution allows to set the device# before to initialize the drive, needed for example if you have 2 1551 units.

The problem is that the 1551 schematics has very little with the PCB I've got in my own 1551. Maybe take a look at the photo:

Instead of 6523A there is 6525A, and the jumper (JP1) is located at different PIN - in the middle of the chipset and not at the edge. I'm also not quite sure whether the JP1 it is really cut open.
Any ideas would be really, really appreciated, the software reverting to 8 with every reset is more than annoying. Wink

F7sus4, The schematics I have - one clear and the other not so clear - show JP1 connected to pin 30 of the IC. On one schematic the IC is clearly labelled as a 6525A and on the other, unfortunately, I have crossed out the original IC type and written in 6525A.
It would appear from your.jpg that the pads have been "opened". These could simply be soldered as I originally suggested or if you do not mind modifying your 1551 then you could follow the solution of SVS.
