| Dead Plus 4 PSU
Hi all, I have two Plus 4s and only one PSU - and unfortunately it just seems to have failed, as neither machine will respond (no power light, no noise). Any suggestions please? There are none available for sale right now in the UK. Is the PSU fixable at all? I do have a C64 PSU, could I perhaps put the Plus 4 connector on that? (Probably a silly idea!)
Thanks, Andy

The voltages match, so just need to be careful with the pinout

I'm no hardware guy, but I found this old thread that suggests C64 power supplies do work...
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can confirm.

The Plus/4 PSU is not repairable. It's filled with epoxy specifically to prevent repairs.
You can use a 64 PSU, but be sure to load-test it on a 64 before changing the plug. There's a reason PSUs on Ebay are no longer with their 64s, usually because the 64 went bad and the owner didn't realize a wonky PSU was the cause.
The PSU supplied with the 1764 RAM Expansion is more reliable. Ensure that it's marked "64/1764" as seen here: http://www.nightfallcrew.com/wp-content/gallery/commodore-c64-power-supply-for-reu-1764-repaired/IMG_6499.jpg

hi, please check the connector. Initial plussy came with round socket and 100% compatible with c64 psu, i also used mine in that way.

C= repair technician Ray Carlsen says that though the Plus/4 and the C128 p.s.'s both have square connectors, the pins do not line up. He has never seen Plus/4 square connectors for sale and advises that a user just replace the square connector socket on the Plus/4 with a round connector socket like that on the C64.
I went the other way and upgraded the components in a reparable C64 power supply with modern-day components and had the Plus/4 connector line attached to it.
