| Last game
I coded a small (and relative fast) sprite rutin and converted some last ninja gfx. I re_drawed ninja sprite in multicolor with background color... The original c64 sprites are in hires.
Here is a small youtube video: http://youtu.be/VXHiVjJAg0o

Very good concept demo. The ninja sprite looks okay with half the resolution. If the enemies can be done with just the black, then a conversion seems possible. (Or, perhaps a scaled back game which is only similar in scope.)

Man I know SID music is the obvious choice but an option to use a TED version of the music would be epic too! Two channel Last Ninja music in the style of Adventures in Time would rock!
Would need a nice little remix for both formats as that would interest the Ninja Fans outside of this scene to have a look. I would do it my self if I knew how so can only pray some one else will take it up.

Back when C16/Plus4 ClassiX was no more than a 15meg website because of hosting limits before it went to emucamp, around 1998/1999 I said then Last Ninja could run on a Plus/4! Maybe Luca even remembers me saying this.
I'm sure later stages will prove more difficult, more so inside buildings but right now it is most excellent! I would be happy to walk to the top of the path and back through at the bottom on one continuous loop of this one screen. Last Ninja did indeed walk on a Plus4!

Yes, I remember it very well, MIK said it Nonetheless, there's a whole big ocean between moving a sprite and having a game ready to play, so let's see what happens.

Nice first version, and look very fast. If I remember well, the original version was 2-3 times slower. Not a new Sabre Wulf, please! I am too old for that speed now :-D
OFF (?) well, it was written somewhere, that the first Last Ninja original code made on C64 in Fortran or Cobol (I am not sure), we have much-much better tools right now than this?

So what about all the questions/issues everyone raised? How serious are you about this project? What about your other game (the one with spaceships)?

Thank you for your kindness!
1) Looks great, and very close to the original speed and movement.
2) now I look it on Chrome, as I could not wait, so it was double success now

| Re: Last game
Should be called The "Last Ninja +4". Just about enough room on the title screen for a small +4 next to the letter A of NINJA.
Looking cool. Great to see so many screens! To do the game any justice it also needs TED versions of the C64 SID's to make it unique. Maybe add a whole new level which I'm sure would have C64 boys wanting to port that back to C64 haha!

Really nice! Just compared it to C64 version, as I rememeber, how the screen built up on C64. Is it due to different method to build up the screen from the elements, or the Plussy is so much faster?

The speed difference between would not account for the speed-up seen in the video. The most likely answer is that Ati coded/stored the part that draws the screens differently.

| Re: Last game
I did notice the screen update was way faster. Was expected naturally. Ha I'm sure the original C64 versions was made like it was so parts could be reused, so the slow rendering which has never been an issue I will admit must be as the computer digs about picking out GFX that it requires from memory. Stage 1 and the original design the game would work around does repeat it's self here and there. I take it the C64 would also have less free memory over all to run the game than the full 64k as people might think so that's why it had to be optimized in this manor?
I'm guessing the Plus4 screens are whole single pictures with an interaction animation running on the top as to why it would be quicker? Sorry if I think of it in this way at this time not knowing better, no offence intended. Just pure respect no matter how it works. Something I could not do!

| Re: Last game
the developer will tell the secret on the final game storing full multicolor screens will not work. One screen is approx 6kb with color map, and the code and music... So then it should be rendered in the same way as on c64. I suppose it will be faster, as it will use pure optimised asm code instead of compiled one. btw gfx interaction from sw should be much slower than hw sprites.

| Re: Last game
I don't know, how build up screens in the c64 version. But i know, how work it on plus4. First, i use a full bitmap. There are ~90% of level1 gfx parts. Every screen has a tabling, it shows, where is parts on the screen. A well optimalized rutin reads tabling and drops the parts from bitmap to screen. And yes, it is faster than c64 version. And 64kb? Yes, it is small, very small. The level1 has 24 different screens, i'm ready with 15 now... It is a big work, because i code some softsprite, if an item is front of ninja. And last, it isn't a converted stuff, it is full my own code.

I would imagine the hardest part is yet to come. Making the Ninja jump over the logs in the swamp and the rocks at the river. Best of luck with that!
Looking forward to the next video installment, excellent work so far!
