I know for sure that the plus4 is fine since everything is working with an old datasette of mine. However the datasatte that came with the plus4 doesn't seem able to read any file. Since the datasette seems in efficient mechanical conditions ( it looks almost new ) I suppose that there is some problem with magnetic dirt or mechanical calibration. What should I do to check its functioning? You might want to do a cross-test with the good datassette first (so that you can hear how a perfect one should sound like). Listening to how the unit sounds (if it gives any signs of life, at all) will give you a first pointer on how/what should be repaired.
