| Shift+Run/Stop?
I just picked up 2 C16s, but neither of them give me a picture. I'm not certain the RF cable is OK though. Can I test if the chips are OK by pressing Shift+Run/Stop, then pressing Play on the tape drive, like you can do with a C64?

Just thought to look at some of the game cover scans and they all say "type LOAD", so I guess I'll try that. Any other way of testing come to mind? Or are they likely just the usual blown TEDs?

Shift + Run/Stop loads the first file on a diskette when you're using a C16 or Plus/4.... not the first file on the Datasette like a C64 or VIC-20.
Does the power light come on? You could have bad power supplies. C16s run on 9 volts, not a dual 9v/5v setup like a 64 or Plus/4. Also check the fuse on the motherboard.
Use a monitor cable from your 64 setup to bypass the C16's tuner. If you get a picture there, then the problem is in the RF unit .... not TED.
An autostart cartridge (like one of the Scott Adams games, or Jack Attack) will bypass BASIC and part of the Kernal.... handy for diagnosing startup issues like a bad BASIC Low ROM.
