You mean the speak-n-spell saying 'six' but it sounding like sex?
Or is that the CBM magic voice?

It's sounds like the built in digital speech of the v364...

 Re: A little riddle

Sidius and James are (almost) correct, this is the V364 (or the Magic Voice, as they used the same female voice). What you hear is however not sampled from the original, but the very first emulation of the Toshiba T6721A chip, based on the ROM parameter dumps happy Note, that the current "emulation" (or better: simulation) in Yape is completely fake, it is making use of the MS Speech API. It will be replaced with true emulation soon, once I am happy with the results.

Cool! Though I'm not sure what the point is since neither ever actually worked on a real Plus/4 you could buy.
I guess from the standpoint of emulating a 364 exactly it makes sense... all 2 or 3 of them that remain. The Magic Voice never worked on the Plus/4 did it? For C64 emulation it would make a lot more sense since there were quite a few Tragic Voice units sold and several games supported it.

Don't get me wrong... from a technical standpoint I love the idea. I'm just not sure what good it will do except to play with it a few times to see what the 364 could have been.

No, the Magic Voice never worked in the plus/4, because the glue logic is different in the Magic Voice and the V364. Also, the C64 has a very awkward cartirdge handling, different from the plus/4. BTW, I could actually find the piece of code in the original Wizard of Wor, and also in Gorf, that likely did the speech... Since the former has a plus/4 port, it could be patched to have the same speech happy

About the point of emulation: it's preserving the original hardware in software what it's all about. At one point all Commodore equipments will malfunction and we're all but left here with the emulators (unless the originals survive mankind, of course wink ).

I could possibly make a T6721 module for VICE's C64 emulator, too, but first it needs to support the Magic Voice cartridge (it can't even handle 2 carts at the same time).

Just imagine, being able to use the T6721 means, one could play his own samples, too. This is 15 - or 9 - bit digital output, compare this to the maximum of 5 of the TED... One could do a rap song, use it as additional sound channel, or for high resolution digital playback.
