| mising hardware: commodore 1801 monitor
Hi!
I collect Commodore computers and just came here to have a look after some Plus/4 and C-16 games, and while surfing the site I noticed that in the hardware section the monitors for the 264 series are missing ! Now, ofcourse you can connect every composite monitor to the 264 series computers, but there is one Commodore monitor which seems to fit the 264 series also in colours:
The Commodore 1801 monitor !!
Seems to be quite rare and hard to find... I got mine from a local Ebay auction. If you want some pictures for your site please email me at overdoc@yahoo.com as I don't read this forum regularly.
Anyway, very nice site and very helpful in my search for some Plus/4 & C-16 games!

I'd like to see this "1801" that matches the Plus/4.
To my knowledge, the only Commodore-branded monitor sold was the CM-141, also occasionally seen as a "black 1802"; I think I have seen it once referred to as an 1803.

...and then would still be there the black version of the 1084S D2 (also called 1084B) ! Actually thought for the CDTV/CD32...but with a 264th he looks also very good!
Here is a small (but bad) picture: http://www.cdtv.org.uk/1084.html

As far as I know the CM-141 was a NTSC monitor only for the US market. The 1802 (Brown) was similar to the CM-141. Have a look to Bo Zimmermann's side http://www.zimmers.net/cbmpics/ I have never seen a 1802 (Brown) in Germany only 1801,1802 or 1802 D. The 1801 www.zimmers.net/cbmpics/mecomp4.html can be found from time to time on ebay germany. I have three of them and they fit great to the 264er design. I do not know if the 1801 was ever sold outside from Germany. The english Commodore brochures for the Plus/4 or C16 (including the peripherals brochure) allways show the 1701 or 1702 never a 1801. In brochures you also find only a 1541 never a 1551. Maybe somebody has a german or italian brochure and they are different?

@Vampire: Thank you for the advice. I had forgotten about Bo's collection.
Here in the States, the 1701 is very rare but looks identical to the 1702. The 1801 doesn't exist here at all. We had the 1802 and 1802C (to match 1541C and 64C), the 190x, 20xx, and the 1084 series (to match the 128 and Amigas).
When I posted yesterday, I thought the origin of the thread had mistyped the model number, and was instead referring to the 1802/1803 shaped CM-141. These monitors have two exposed round knobs on the front right; they are not hidden under a cover like the 170x series controls.
The 1801 seems to be unique, in that it is not styled like the 170x series, nor like the others in the 180x series at that time, but more like the late-80s 1802C.

In the list of peripherals in the US Plus/4 user manual and UK C16 manual, the monitors listed are the 1702 and 1802/1803. The UK Plus/4 manual only mentions the 1701.

That's the newer design of the 1802. And that's the one I used to have ...
The 1802 came in different designs. For instance the "GEOS" ads in Germany featured the old one. I liked the new one much better and picture quality with chroma/luma was really good.

My only C= display is a 1801... I picked it up together with an old OCS A500 at a second hand "shop" back in 1997 or so... I still use it when I'm at home. It's a little bit blurry for the Amiga, but ideal for the Plus/4 / C64 / etc.. it still has something from a "crt display from the 80's" feeling, unlike today's (even CRT) TVs...

Does anybody has this monitor for sale, too? I am searching one.
5.1.2011: I found my 1801 Monitor after one year searching for 1 EU on ebay! Got the manual on an other auction too. The 1801 matches perfect to the 264-Series. My actual dream combination: plus/4, 1801-Monitor, 1551- Floppy, 1531-Joystick, MPS-803 Printer is now complete. an i fullfilled a dream from my childhood. Next step will be too complete all the cartridges for this series.
