| Following up my last post about tapes...
Does anyone know of anywhere on the net that will play a TAP file back as a loading noise through the PC soundcard? I'm thinking of using minidisc to load games in.

And that goes for prg files too. There's one for the C64 that does this- surely there is a program for C16 too.

| No...
We do have a couple of TAP's that are infact WAV's files. Just rename the file type... Tapes
How ever I can't say 100% if you will get these back onto tape. They took me hours to make. Getting the volume levels right was the hardest part.. Here's all the info that Mike Dailly created which was my guide. Maybe the reverse can be done? Also note I did use an old mono spectrum tape player which i recorded from. http://www.javalemmings.com/minus4/tape.htm
Also worth looking into is HDD64. You will need an X1541 or XE1541 cable but using this software you can connect your Plus4 direct to your PC and load direct off your Harddrive/CD ROM and so on. The Plus4 does'nt need any software at all... http://www.64hdd.com/c64-proj.html

That HDD64 sounds the best bet. You say that it works with plus 4. I suppose that means it works the same way for C16 too?

| Oh yes
It works with all Commodore 8-bit computers that have the standard serial interface (VIC-20, C16, C116, Plus/4, C64, SX64, C128).

Someone told me on another forum that the X1531 cable can be used to directly connect a C16 player to the PC. Is this true?

Well, I did on this forum (in a reply to your last post). The instructions how to do it are in the ptap.zip file on Markus Brenner's site. He also has a page describing how to build the X1531 interface: http://arnold.c64.org/~minstrel/x1531/index.html
Happy gaming!

Ah, but you said X1541, not X1531 in that last post. It's confusing, but I assume you mean X1531 since that's the C16 cable and X1541 would only work if using a C64, which doesn't apply here.

Read my answer to your "Using the game files on this site with a real C16/Plus4" post again.

I'm going to try the 1531 cable and see how it goes. I'm clearly so confused that I'm misquoting everyone for fun, but thanks for your help, as I've now got something to aim for, whereas before I didn't have a clue.
