 Re: Tom Thumb

The sheer size of that map is amazing. When I created the Tom Thumb map that we have here on the site, I had to reverse engineer the code, so I understood how it's done. Sure, pulling off the programming for the map, plus moving Tom with all his special moves, plus the enemies is no small task, but there's something even more amazing for me.

How did he design the map? It's actually very nice and challenging, and it has a nice learning curve. Overseeing such an area is just phenomenal.

You could be right on the money when you mention magic wink

 ..

As of yet I have not asked any questions related to Udo's work, that's because I dare not ask knowing he is very busy. happy

Yes a very interesting question and 101 more questions to be asked from that wink
I think Udo could write a book on how Tom was created and with less that 16k. The thinking that must of been put behind it... What we do know is that the C64 version may of helped more than we think? Now there's a question wink

I think some sort of interview would be cool. At least Udo can answer the question in his own time so we should pick wisely if that were to happen.

1. Did your release Summer Events for the Amiga? If so then I must find it!!! happy

 Re: .D64

This is definitely something to look forward to by all wink Most suprising and welcome turn of events. Lando, I'm surprised you haven't asked him about the Tom Thumb ending, but I can imagine that you are just itching to find out happy

 Uaaaaaaagh!

Fantastic! Simply fantastic!
Udo probably is talking about the early version of pole vault event shown somewhere in the back cover, but also the announced (Zzap! Italian version) horse event!

Nah, I'm astonished! I'll wait Udo's .d64 imegs like a manna from the sky!

 cool

I feel honoured that I could contribure to the search, even if it was a bit like "let's get in the middle of it" mission.

LVN

p.s.: I hope he will not escape a very-very-very-cool and long interview. I started some questions in email...

Udo Gertz - Behind the magic! :-)

Udo has kindly allowed me to post the contents of his email. The following left me saying WOW! happy Read on:

Dear Lando, dear Csabo,

After looking at Lavina's web site i came across your
plus4 ressource at emucamp and was very surprised
to see all of my games again.
I must say you have done a great job with collecting
all this stuff and i would like to contribute to your
site with some things that i have archived from the past.
In the eighties i collected a lot of game reviews,
advertisements and some covers/inlays of my games.
I also found the original data of animations, graphics
and music as well as my own tools, that I used to
create them.
Another thing, which I found, are unpublished versions
of some of my games and graphics/animations that did not
make it into the final version of Summer Events.
Please let me know if you like to put something of the
above on your web site.
The sad point is that I do not have much time, since I
am very busy with my work. Therefore I can send things
to you only occasionally and cannot respond quickly to
e-mails.

Cheers,
Udo

PS: I read the thread "search for udo" and found it
really funny how you have managed to find me
wink

Udo also added the following today:

I'm looking forward to convert some plus4 disks to
D64-format at the weekend. Perhaps i can send something
to you the next week
happy

As soon as Udo sends his hidden treause will let you know happy
