Yep, try with all the different video drivers (GDI, Direct3D and OpenGL). The degree of optimization in these drivers can be quite different. Also, update your video card's driver if possible.

The slowness of YAPE is more like video driver issue than CPU.

Intel pays extra money to MS for those slow down cycles in XL, same goes for AMD and Gaia. Obviously!

I've noticed and interesting phenomenon.
A VBA macro (under Excel) of mine runs for 24 secs to complete on my AMD Athlon II X3 445 while it completes in less than 2 secs on an Intel I3.
However, the Intel processor cannot run two open windows of YAPE well. Both of them become seriously slowed down when both yape are running.
On my AMD I can run almost any windows of YAPE without the slowing down problem.
