His guess does seem like a good bet, except for the country It's probably not Germany, but rather Japan, just like it says on the label

The machine appears to have been manufactured in december 1984. Apart from the funky serial number I don't see anything that sets it apart. MIK's guess that it's first off that particular production line seems like a good bet.

A little update on the machine: there is no type sticker at the top. A picture from inside: http://oi39.tinypic.com/2md0xs5.jpg

Maybe it's the first one off the factory shop floor in Germany of that production line.
Got to remember the real first machines were made in the USA and a slim chance they ever had a case.

Can't be a hybrid, I guess after seeing the picture I should have done a facepalm: the answer was already there in the first post in text. It clearly says model Plus/4. (The label on the 232 says model 232.) So it's a Plus/4 through and through.
So... assuming it is genuine, we just have to accept that it is what it is

| One stupid question
Could it be a hybrid case? I mean that somehow after an accident the bottom of a 232 case was mated to the other parts of a plus/4.

Gaia collected the list of known 232 serial numbers a while back: http://plus4world.powweb.com/forum/22002/-/aa5
So, first, AFAIK there's no official documentation or explanation on how the serial numbers were generated. Second, it's not as clear cut as AA5 = 232, since we know of at least one 232 which starts with AA4. It's a bit weird that AA5 000001 would be a regular Plus/4, but not unthinkable IMHO. Where did you see it?

On the sticker there is:
C= 264 series Model plus/4 Serial No. AA5 000001
Isn't AA5 for the Commodore 232? What do you think this is? On the front it looks like a regular plus/4.
