Jaw–dropping! No extra sprite layers, no FLI, nothing c64-ish. That pic is possible on Plus/4 too! (The moving frames in the demo are sprites of course.)
Re: X'2012 Anyway, click HERE to download (tmp!) the converted hires competitors at X2012, packed in order to view them quick but of course easily to re-save and re-use. In my opinion the Redcrab's gfx would place higher than his 11th rank.
Re: X'2012 And if I convert the pictures, who would code a decent release for a picture gallery which contains all of them? Apropos, the wonderful piece of graphics drawn by Duce "The Origin Of Pixels" is hires but it's high the whole screen including borders (sprites?). And "Castle In The Sky" by Louie64 has little sprites in the centre of the image.
Re: X'2012 I am not discouraged, especially not because of Coma Light. I don't see anything revolutionary in that prod technically. (I am a coder, sorry.) What is exceptional in that and other c64 prods is art work and music in my opinion.
Re: X'2012 Dear Luca, Thank you for the viewable media links, I have no working C64 emulator on my PC
Some really nice demos, Oxy especially good in transitions... About the parallax scrolling: it is just great. But if I remember well, a very similar one was there on the 8 shades of Grey collection (in fact I was really surprised, why it never transformed into a real arcade game... would look just perfect). I am not an expert, but except some overlap effects (can be done well only with sprites) our version was up to this standard.
Anyhow, it was really great to watch and listen. Thanx!
Re: X'2012 Oxyron, Hitmen and Arise entries are my favorite. Dekadence was nice aswell. Browsing the x-party-releases is really a highlight at the end of the year
And: Yeah, coma light is discouraging. Axis is some beast, really.
Re: X'2012 I'dont shit into my pants from the Hitmen demo, there is a lot of good effects but there is cheesy one too, and sometimes the effect transitions have bugs.. its nice, but rather average..
We can talk about the Genesis Project's one too, its about the name, some retro effects, tons of scrolltexts and thats all..
X'2012 If you've felt like discouraged once you've watched some recent incredible trackmos, a bare glance to the democompo of X'2012 party (see on the usual places) will destroy your desire in coding even a single 1x1 DYCP! It's very late now, and the party audience is now voting. But right now, I can say that Oxyron has just raised the bar in all the retro demoscene, with Coma Light 13! Oh, and several other participants would have easily beat any previous compo!
