 Bacon -->

I went back and voted the extra drives I have to reflect a total count = total votes.

If it's on it's way go ahead and count it now, so those of us who are checking the results can see how many of which drive are out there.

Some software out there is copy-protected to a particular drive (1551 in Europe, 1541 in US/Canada), and it's handy to know if we need to "modify" the programs before posting them online. happy

I voted once each for 1541, 1541C and 1541-II. I'm not sure it was the right thing to do, though, considering I didn't have a Plus4 back when. wink
Fact is, I still don't have one. I've bought two of them on e-bay, I just haven't recieved them yet, so I thought I might vote anyway. Oh, and one of them comes with a 1551, so I will have to vote for that too when I get it. happy

What's more, I have two of every drive I voted for, but I only voted once for each... Rather complicated, huh?

 Voting

It's fine if you vote for each drive you owned. happy

 Commodore drives

All of my drives are genuine Commodore drives.

I was wondering if I should have voted once for each machine I actually own, or once for each type (since I do have multiples of some). Or just once total, to indicate that I own(ed) a diskette drive.

Oh, and I forgot about my Oceanics drive. The clone drives were pretty common in Europe too, especially the Oceanics one (aka Excelerator Plus). The CMD FD and HD drives were also available here, but few people actually bought them...

I assume that you're interested in what I use with my Plus/4, and not what I own. I only use my 1551 with the Plus/4, as anything else is painfully slow happy But other than that I have a couple of 1541's, 1541-II, 1571, 1581, MSD-2, and 8050 happy

 Wow!

You sure know your floppy drive... Nice collection there, James. Is it okay if we don't update the poll now, though? You would probably be the only one with the USA clones... happy By the way, would you think about submitting a "My Story" entry for your page? wink

 Disk drive poll (on index page)

Csabo, I voted 4 times.... once each for my 1541, 1551, 1541-II, and the 1570 that should be here this weekend I considered a 1571 for poll purposes.

I actually have two 1541's, two 1541-IIs, the 1551, the 1570, and a 1581. If I can count my 128D-CR then I have a 1571 also.

Over here in the States, there were other companies that made clones. CMD made the FD series of 1581 clones; Enhancer, Blue Chip, and others made the 1541/1571 clones. MSD made the single and double MSD drives (with both serial and IEEE ports so it could be used on the PET/CBM line as well as the 64/128/16/+4).
