 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

I found the original issue of Compute with the C64/Vic 20 versions. Issue 56, Jan 85.

All Compute issues are available via torrent.

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

I remember experimenting with the code linked above (great find, Attila! happy ). Functionally, it's indeed compatible to the usual C64 turboloading system. ...Well, better said, it was "meant to be" compatible with them (or something like that). At the level of the turbo routine, it's perfect. The integration with the Commodore Basic system, it's less than that. Due to the fact that it takes Basic memory, and that it gets "killed" by Her Turbo's embedded turboload routine, it's been always less than useable for copying files; and due to the fact that it pays no attention to the C64 files' start address of $0801 (being the screen memory there in the Plus/4), it was less than ideal for sharing files between the C64 and the Plus/4. (...I did try that :-D, I would have needed something for transferring files as I had no floppy drive at the time, nor did my friends (C64 owners) have one).

I did disassemble and analyse it though, and the core became the base of my first ever stuff (ever "published", or something like that) back then :-D. (It was MegaCopy )

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

@Gaia
It appears to talk about compatibility with an old version so there may be an earlier article somewhere that says more.

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

In the meantime, I added those two Compute Mit pages, thanks!
Hope that Hungarians would find spare time in order to look into this Micro magazin mag, which looks very promising...

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

Thanks, that's intriguing stuff. I can't seem to find any reference in the text to THE "multiplatform" Turbo Tape though, unlike in the Hungarian article, so this could be a name ambiguity. Still, this is some interesting stuff. Would be cool to OCR it and copy paste into an emulator happy

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

If it's the same as the C64 version then that's exactly what I was looking for.

Gotcha!

http://pcvilag.muskatli.hu/irodalom/mm/86/86112/kep.php?kepparam=m86112-5.jpg

Since you very likely do not understand Hungarian at all, I try to give a brief summary:
* 500 baud speed
* multiplatform "supertape" format
* same as the C64 turbo tape format (!)
* the guy (György Rétvári) claims that he wrote the program, but who knows... happy
* new instructions are: <-L for load, <-S for save and <-V for verify.

Hope this helped!

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

Well, since I've never even seen the +4 version or the magazine I really can't be sure if it's even the program I'm looking for.

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

Hello, i'd search my Compute Mit Magazines and found the listing for "Turbo-Tape" in issue 8/87. If this is the "source" you're looking for i'll scan it...

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

I seem to recall there was a German (or Hungarian?) article that published the source... well, "source"... happy I'll try browsing my archives.

 Re: Compute TurboTape for the +4?

I found an executable here:
http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/crossplatform/transfer/datassette/index.html

I already had the page up before I asked the question. Du-Oh!
However, it doesn't have source, the link to find the current version is broken, and the readme.txt file appears to be over 10 years old.

 Compute TurboTape for the +4?

I was wondering if there is a version of the program TurboTape, published in Compute magazine, for the +4. I'm interested in the source code, not just an executable.
I realize there was a commercial program called TurboTape but it has no source.

The VIC20 version can be found here:
http://one.xthost.info/nbla000/turbotape/

And the original can still be found here:
http://www.jbrain.com/pub/cbm/mags/cg/

I just haven't found source for a port for the +4.
